Avatar: The Last Airbender (also known as ATLA) is an American animated television series developed by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. The genre of the series includes action, adventure, fantasy and comedy-drama.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is a combination of anime and American cartoons. The series Avatar is centred in a world where some people can manipulate the classical elements with “bending”(telekinetic variants of Chinese martial arts). Amidst, one individual, the Avatar is able to bend all four elements and is responsible for maintaining peace and harmony between the world’s four nations.
In 2018, there was news of adaptation into live-action of the series Avatar: The Last Airbender with Netflix. The creators of the series Konietzko and DiMartino announced officially that Netflix was committed to honouring their visions for the series.
However, after two years fans were shocked, as they heard about the announcements made by Konietzko and DiMartino, that they’re no longer working on the live-action series. They didn’t give any specific reason on details but they both made it clear that Netflix didn’t honour their visions and live up to their expectations. They felt negative and unsupportive environment.
Reportedly, there has been no official announcement made by Netflix regarding the cancellation of the show and it might move forward without the two. According to the sources, the project is still on track with Nickelodeon and Dan Lin.
Konietzko stated that “there are exceptionally talented people still working on the series, whom I personally hired“
DiMartino also stated that he is still hoping the team of the show could make something worthwhile. He also tweeted that, “whatever version ends up on the screen, it will not be what Bryan and I had envisioned or intended to make”.
For now, we just have to wait and watch whether the live-action ATLA show will make it up to Netflix or no.
