Reportedly, Wave Studio made an official announcement on manga creator Izumi Matsumoto ’s blog website that he died on October 6, 2020 at the age of 61.

From the past years the creator of Kimagure Orange Road Manga was suffering from general malaise cause of cerebrospinal fluid hypovolemia. However, still Matsumoto had the desire to work and battle with the illness, he was stressed about his heart surgery. Izumi Matsumoto’s doctor stated that he passed away while sleeping and he didn’t have any kind of suffering.
In November last year, Matsumoto opened up on his blog that he had spinal stenosis, which is an unusual narrowing of the spinal cord. He also revealed that he had critical numbness in his legs and he had no idea how he will be able to go forward.
Matsumoto explained that due to severe numbness he was unable to sleep at night and not able to do routine activities. In October 2018, Matsumoto made an announcement on his blog that he is gonna resume his work and activities after more than two years of battling with the illness.
Kimagure Orange Road manga series created by Matsumoto ran in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine of Shueisha from the year 1984 to 1987. The manga comprised of 18 volumes and the story focussed on a boy having super natural powers and falls in love triangle in his high school. The digital manga ran successfully in the year 2016, was retranslated in English language.
