The state agriculture Department of Maharashtra has filed an FIR against 13 companies for sending bad quality soybean seeds to the farmers of the state. The quality control director of agriculture department, Vijay Ghawate, reported that the authorities received complaints from almost 30,000 farmers regarding the same issue.
The farmers complained that the seeds they bought for sowing in this kharif season were so spoilt that they did not even germinate.
The 13 companies against whom the FIR has been filed are located in Jalna, Latur, Pune, Solapur, Beed, usmanabad, Buldhana, Nagpur and Chandrapur divisions. The investigations and inspections are still in progress. The companies have also been asked to pay the compensation to the farmers.
In Maharashtra the season soybean has been cultivated on nearly 41 hectares of land. out of the total 48% of the sewing operations have already been completed as per the reports sent by the official sources.
Agriculture Department – The previous week Aurangabad bench of the Mumbai High court chided the state government for creating delays in action making against the vendors who supplied that quality seeds to the farmers. The court stated that the farmers located in Marathwada as well as Vidarbha region are are victims of abject poverty and such an act of deceiving could hamper their survival.
