Batwoman Season 2 got renewed in January 2020. Batwoman Season 1 ended with just 20 episodes, whereas it was planned for 22 episode season. However, the series’ unintended season finale still managed to cleverly set season 2.

Batwoman Season 2 – Release Date

The first season was affected as the productions being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, despite this, The CW has revealed that Batwoman Season 2 will release in January 2021.

Warner Bros is reportedly planning to resume production on several TV shows in late August. As Batwoman and several others are filmed in Canada, and the places where COVID-19 cases are relatively less, we can expect the series to meet this target.

Batwoman Season 2 – Ruby Rose Won’t Be Coming Back

One of the shocking news came on May 19, 2020, when Ruby Rose announced her exit from the series. Despite taking the lead role for one season, her reasons for departure is not entirely clear.

Ruby Rose announced this news through her Instagram account. She said goodbye to the character with a tribute video made by a fan, wherein a montage of several scenes of her participation in the show was showcased.

Ruby Rose explained how difficult it was for her to make the decision. She also thanked the cast, the film crew, the producers, the studio, and her fans by saying – “It was not an easy decision, but those who know it, know it.”

Batwoman Season 2 – Javicia Leslie Will Be The New Lead

In early July 2020, it was announced that Javicia Leslie, a bisexual Black woman is cast as Ryan Wilder, the new Batwoman.

This new character will replace Kane as Batwoman. Caroline Dries stated the series will continue to “respect everything that Ruby put into the Kate Kane character.” She also revealed that the key storyline during season two will be her disappearance.

Becoming the first Black actress to step into the iconic role for a live-action TV show or movie, Javicia Leslie expressed her excitement. She said – “I am honored to join this groundbreaking show which has been such a trailblazer for the LGBTQ+ community.”

Leslie will make her debut in January 2021 as the superhero, when the series is set to return for season 2.
