Recently, during an interview with Comicbook, his desire to join the MCU somehow was dicussed. He was in contact with co-president of Marvel Studios, Louis D’Esposito about the possibilities. In the movie, he get the role of titular character’s father. Marvel thought T’Chaka  role was too small part for Hudson to play. So they wasn’t casted him.

Hudson told to an entertainment news outlet- “Well, that part is too small for you”.
The death of T’Chaka in Captain America: Civil War was the part of workup incident for the entire film. The main role of him in Black Panther was how he killed Killmonger’s father.
