Charles Grodin was one of the most famous actors, comedians, writers and also was a talk show host. He also tried his hand in assistant directing for some time. Charles Grodin began his career in acting in the 1960s in various TV shows most notably, the Virginian.
He was a native of Pittsburgh and he belong to an Orthodox Jewish household. The family name was initially Grodinsky, but was later changed to Grodin by his grandfather. Charles completed his education from a school called as Peabody high school where he was elected class president. He also went to the University of Miami but he never graduated.

We all know the masterpiece that is Lawrence Turman’s “The Graduate”. Well, it was revealed Lawrence actually wanted Charles for this role but he ended up not taking it. Lawrence warned Grodin that this movie has the potential to make him into a star but he still rescinded the offer.
Later, the role went to Dustin Hoffman. Now, we all know that Hoffman got a lot of popularity with the role as it is considered one of classics.

This does not mean that Charles has not done good movies in his lifetime. He acted along side the great Robert De Niro in the movie called “Midnight Run”. He also has several accolades to his name, especially a Primetime Emmy Award.
Charles had remained active for about seven decades in the movie industry. In this time, he had amassed a wealth of about $12 million. His highest grossing movie was Beethoven which earned about $150 million in 1992. It was made only on a meagre budget of $12 million but earned a lot of critical acclaim and money.
He died recently due to bone marrow cancer but still remains in every movie lover’s heart.
