The Dirty John Story
The first season of Dirty John ‘The John Mehaan Story’, was about the real-life story of a business woman Debra Newell’s life and how she falls prey to a con-man, John Mehaan. The first season is now streaming on Netflix which was primarily premiered on Bravo. It was an adaptation of a podcast series which was already popular. Dirty John is created, produced, and written by Alexandra Cunningham.
Season one: The John Meehan Story
In the first season, Debra meets John through an online dating site. The theme of the show revolves around abuse and manipulation in a relationship. It also tries to portray the perspective of the abused. Both the lead characters have an interesting back story and the story unfolds twists and turns in a subtle yet irresistible way.
Season Two: The Betty Broderick Story
The Dirty John franchise has now a brand new installment, which is also based on a real-life twisted love tale just like the first one but with a totally different storyline.
The second season is inspired by the 1989 infamous ‘Broderick Divorce Case’. This show mainly focuses on the life of Betty and how she copes with the ups and downs of her life. The story has three main characters. Betty Broderick played by Amanda Peet, Dan Broderick played by Christian Slater and Linda Broderick played by Rachel Keller. The main plot of this show is about how Elizabeth Betty Broderick shot her husband Daniel Dan Broderick and his new wife Linda Broderick to death while they were asleep. We get to see how things led to this.
The first two episodes of the second season, “Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story” were premiered on June 2, 2020 on the USA Network, with new episodes coming out every Tuesday. This show is being loved by audiences as they have been loving these types of thriller shows which portrays the other and the ugly side of love and how affection can change into obsession. For instance, the Netflix show ‘You’ gained a lot a popularity and was widely loved by people.
This show has a special popularity among viewers as the Betty Broderick case already has a lot of media attention and Betty is still serving her 32-year life in prison sentence
