Avatar 2: At the end of 2019, there were reports that James Cameron, the director, has said that the performance capture side of the sequels of Avatar had been completed. Also, James at the time said that the live-action side of production is also done. Nevertheless, they had a few more months to work and that was expected to be completed in spring. But they didn’t know that covid pandemic would spoil all the plans. Due to covid pandemic, the production was halted resulting in a delay of Avatar sequels.
Director James Cameron revealed that the live-action for Avatar sequels are almost done:
But now, James Cameron and other team members are back to work. Further, there is a recent update that lives action shooting for Avatar 2 is finished. Also, soon they will complete the live-action shooting for Avatar. At the 2020 Austrian World Summit, James Cameron was asked about the development of Avatar 2 and Avatar 3. To this he replied as follows:
“The day we deliver Avatar 2, we’ll just start working on finishing Avatar 3. So where we are right now, I’m down in New Zealand shooting. We’re shooting the remainder of the live-action. We’ve got about 10% left to go. We’re 100% complete on Avatar 2, and we’re sort of 95% complete on Avatar 3.”
So once they are done with Avatar 2 and it is released in theatres, all their attention will be on Avatar 3. The director revealed that they are working on the last bit of live-action for Avatar 3 and soon it will be completed. However, there will be a long run of post-production. And we can not expect Avatar 2 to hit the screens before December 2022. Further, there might be reshoots after they piece the movie together.
