The plot of the film ‘Mank’
The movie is based on a script by Fincher’s father, Jack Fincher. He wrote the script before his death in 2003.
Mank is on Herman J. Mankiewicz, a very influential figure in the industry, a screenwriter who co-wrote the original screenplay of the highly regarded Citizen Kane. He was credited to have worked on over 25 films between 1929 and 1935.
The most controversial part of his career was centered around Citizen Kane. There was a huge dispute between himself and his fellow co-author Orson Welles regarding the screen credits. He also claimed that Welles had offered him a bonus of ten thousand dollars if he would agree on Welles taking full credit for the screenplay. But the Screen Writers Guild gave credit to both of them, placing Mankiewicz’s name first.
