Mirbai Chanu has gone ahead to make history. She has scored big and got the Silver Medal in Tokyo Olympics. This is the first medal for India at the Tokyo Olympics. Hence, we thought that we should dedicate a piece to this athlete and her life.
Mirabai Chanu: Personal Life
Her full name is Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and she was born in Imphal, Manipur on 8th of August, 1994. It is said that her family was aware of her strength from an early age. They also told an incident that her elder brother could not even lift the firewood but she could easily carry them.

Now, let us talk about the career of Mirabai. For this let us go back to the first major breakthrough that she got. It was at the Glasgow edition of Commonwealth Games where she won the silver medal in 48kg category.
She had also managed to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics. But she failed to appear in the event as she could not lift clean & jerk in any of her three attempts. But, then she came back at the Anaheim games. This was the 2017 World Weightlifting Championship where she won the Gold Medal in the Women’s 48kg category.

She has also gotten a lot of awards in India as her recognition as an athlete. She got a felicitation by Biren Singh, CM of Manipur and cash of Rs. 2 million. She has also got the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the highest sports honor in this country.
