After seeing a healthy rating and a dedicated fan base, the show has been officially renewed for season 2 after a cliffhanger finale.
The news (which did not include an exact premiere date) was announced on Friday during the Television Critics Association winter press tour, along with this little tease about what’s to come for the witches of Fort Salem.
Motherland: The Big Finale
The big finale reveals that Raelle’s mother Willa is actually alive and she has been the one giving the orders to Scylla the whole time is going to have a major impact on Raelle once she learns the truth about the two important women in her life. But creator Eliot Laurence explained that ending the season on the twist was not always his plan. “We did not know in the winter’s room,” Laurence said. ” It came out of those ‘what if’ moments and we ran with it.”
Laurence noted that season 2 is going to begin on the ground in a Spree cell. We’re going to learn that what feels like, we’re going to see how the Spree’s changing. Both Scylla and Willa will be pulled towards Raelle, It’s going to be very dramatic.
Something that will affect all the characters in season 2 is the story explores the balance between “what is necessary force? what is justifiable?” Laurence added. “That’s going to play through many of our characters’ dynamics” as the ancient evil force, the Camarilla, returns in a major way.
Motherland: Fort Salem stars Taylor Hickson, Jessica Sutton, Ashley Nicole Williams, Amalia Holm, Demetria McKinney, and Lyne Renee.
With the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, season 2 will take some time to kickstart production. This may mean we’re in it for the long wait. Should things clear up sooner, then we might be looking for a mid-2021 release.
