New trailer for Steve McQueen’s BBC series ‘Small Axe’ released

A new trailer for Small Axe, the anthology series created and directed by Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning filmmaker Steve McQueen (12 Years A Slave). Small Axe is one of the most anticipated series right now.


BBC has released a new trailer for small axe; the anthology series will tell five different stories set within London’s West Indian community. It will be premiering on BBC One and iPlayer.


The story is based on real events, and according to BBC, the show will tell the story of Mangrove 9, black activists. How their lives have been changed and shaped by their own force of will despite the widespread racism.

Steve McQueen wrote, Sunday; 50 years since the Mangrove March, which led to 9 innocent Black lives being arrested. It was a march necessitated by police brutality in Notting Hill. To celebrate the bravery of these community activists and the nine who went on to be pardoned of instigation to riot with the judge citing ‘evidence of racial hatred. He also shared the trailer of Mangrove, one of the films to be released under the banner of Small Axe.


Other films under small axe

Four new films will be debuting with Mangrove as BBC, and Prime video is in partnership. Mangrove is one of the five-film from small axe. And the other four are:-

•Lovers Rock (11/27) starring Micheal Ward and Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn

Education (12/4) starring Kenyah

Alex Wheatle (12/11) featuring a newcomer Sheyi Cole and

Red, White and Blue (12/18) starring John Boyega. 

 The title small axe is derived from an African saying which has sonority throughout the Caribbean, “if you are the big tree, we are the small axe.”
