Queen Sugar Season 5: In a world of cutting-edge television with a glut of shows about anti-heroes who are often hard to root for, Queen Sugar gives viewers plenty of people, all of whom feel so familiar, to champion. It rises above melodrama because it’s such an array of talent, such a specificity of culture and place. The first episode of Queen Sugar aired on 6 September back in 2016 on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) and has been shining ever since. Winning numerous awards, it is the first series on television all episodes of which have been developed by all-female directors. Go, ladies! When the last episode aired in July 2019, fans were left wondering when the fifth season will get released.
The plot of Queen Sugar Season 5 follows the story of two siblings, Nova and Charley, trying to handle the responsibilities of their lives. Nova is a New Orleans writer and activist, while Charley is a single wife and mother living in Los Angeles. When their father, Ernest, an indebted sugar-cane farmer, dies, they come back to Louisiana to pay respects to their beloved father and to take care of as well as revive thousands of acres of land that both the siblings have inherited. Those who follow the show would know that, in the last episode of the fourth season, the entire family gathers adorning white clothes to honor Trudy with a headstone on her gravesite. The season may be over, but the Bordelons are still standing and still together-stronger than ever.
Has Queen Sugar Been Renewed?
Yes, Queen Sugar was renewed for a fifth installment in September 2019. But, that’s all the information we have. As of now, there’s no news about progress when it comes to production, owing to the coronavirus, it must have been halted by now.
There’s no official release date yet but, if we go by the previous seasons, season 4 premiered in June 2019, and taking into account the delay caused by the pandemic, we may expect it to return in the latter half of 2020 or early 2021. Until then, stay tuned!
