Ingmar Bergman’s Scenes from a Marriage made a lot of waves when it first came out in 1973. A remake of the same has just come out by HBO. In this article, we are going to give you our take on the show and whether we like it or not. Plus, we shall also be telling how and where to watch it.
As mentioned earlier, the show is a remake of the Swedish miniseries which came out in 1973. The new show stars actors Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac. The series premiered at the Venice Film Festival on 12th September, 2021. It tells us how love in a marriage can just die and the whole relationship may just fall apart.
Scenes from a Marriage: What is the story?
It tells us the story of two couples: Jonathan and Mira. The two have it all – a beautiful daughter, a good house and lead a happy life. Looking from a distance, everything looks perfect until things start to break loose. This starts with Mira expressing her dissatisfaction in the marriage and she confesses the same to Jonathan.
The series is pretty similar to the one in Swedish. We see events that tell us that they are falling out of love. It tends to highlight the glaring problems in their marriage which tells us a cautionary tale of betrayal, violence and disappointment.
Now, we have to say that there are some differences when you compare it to the original series. In the original one, we see that it was the man who was falling out of love. But, in the remake, we see that Mira is the one expressing her dissatisfaction.
