Seth Rogen: When it’s the MCU to be seen everywhere ranging from the box office to PlayStation and other games. This has led to difficulty for mid-size filmmakers for their movies to do well on screens. The Marvel movies very well manage to engage its audience with a touch of comedy, added to the thrill. However, directors with small budget comedies feel that this hampers the comedies to gain success.
In an interview with GamesRadar, Seth Rogen showed his concern for superhero blockbusters coming in terms as rivals with small budget flicks. He said, ” Something that I and Evan talk about a lot is how Marvel movies are comedies. Thor: Ragnarok is a comedy. Ant-man is a comedy at its core. So that’s what’s out there. There are $200 million out there, and so that’s something, as a comedic filmmaker, to be aware of. That is the benchmark people expect!” He claimed with recent Marvel movies coming from the same genre of comedy make it harder for less expensive films to gather eyeballs and resonate with the audiences.
The actor is starring in an upcoming movie, An American Pickle, and is busy promoting the film thus got the chance to explain why MCU is causing a problem for the comedy movies. He went on, “What’s funny is, I’ve been told for the last 10 years that mid-size comedies are dying. Yet, luckily throughout that time, we’ve been able to release enough mid-size comedies that have done well that they keep allowing us to make them.” He admits that comedy filmmakers with small budgets cannot stand up against the MCU movies in accordance with scope. That is the reason why Good Boys does well because we are not offering scope. “What we are offering is pure comedy and emotion and relatability and nostalgia”.
Seth Rogen is adamant enough that the comedies will not die down. However, it is speculated that the actor at some point in time will become a part of the Marvel franchise.
Although he isn’t convinced about MCU intervention in the comedy genre and it is definitely hard to compete with but that would be a good thing if it makes the filmmakers deliver creative good films for the viewers.
