The great heist is the new Columbian series coming to Netflix. It is based on an actual event- a robbery of the Bank of Republic in 1994. Netflix’s decision to release it might have been based on the immense popularity of Money heist.
Expected release date, storyline, and plot:
Netflix is planning to release the first season of The Great Heist on Friday, August 14 worldwide.
In addition to the real event, the creators of the series also took inspiration from a book written about the incident. The book titled ‘This is how I robbed the bank: the assault of the 20th century’ was written by journalist Alfredo Serrano Zabala and was published in 2008.
The thieves executed an elaborate heist using tools, masks, welding machines, and oxygen tanks and stole 24 Billion Columbian pesos(£26 Million) from the Bank of Republic, Columbia’s central bank located in Valledupur. 14 robbers carried out that Robbery on Monday, October 1994. It is also known as the robbery of the century.
The six episodes of the first season will follow the story of the 14 robbers as they planned and executed the robbery. The incident was particularly shocking because the robbers entered through the main front door. And under the guise of carrying out air conditioning maintenance. And they managed to do undetected even though they were inside the building for 21 hours.
Such an audacious robbery was possible because of the group of thieves. It included an electronic specialist, 4 members of the police, three bank officials including a cashier, the treasurer, and the manager of the security system.
The cast of The Great Heist:
Andres Parra who appeared as drug lord Pablo Escobar in the TV series Pablo Escobar. Christian Tappan- knows for his roles in Le Reina del Sur and Fugitivos. And Waldo Urrego, a theatre, film, and television actor from Columbia will appear in The Great Heist.
