The handmaid’s tale, a dystopian- tragedy web series created by Bruce Miller is an adaptation of the 1935 classic novel, ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ by Margaret Atwood.

The first two seasons of the series show the brutality of the regimes in Gilead and the rituals of a society devolved into misogynistic theocracy. Season two gave a hint of June’s plan to flee, unfolding more secret classes of the state. It provides a glimpse of how the world is responding to Gilead. June almost sets to flee the state but then decides to stay back in Gilead to save herself and her child.

How did season 3 end?

‘Mayday’ was introduced in season one as a resistance towards the rituals of Gilead to which June joins. By the end of season three, Mayday  acquires a heroic look. Mayday stands for anyone who wants to destroy Gilead. The season had sentimental and bold moments of June turning into a freedom fighter as she sets a plan to escape Gilead with fifty two more children. The season portrays June’s will to save and free the children no matter what. She decides to be ruthless to achieve victory but realizes that her selflessness is what will save everyone. The highlight of the season is when children successfully reach Canada. The final scene of the episode takes us back to Gilead where June is alive and being carried in a stretcher by the handmaids.

The Handmaid’s Tale  Season 4 – Release, cast and expected plot

The season four trailer was published on the YouTube channel of Hulu (the streaming service of the series), however, the season is hoped to be released in 2021. The trailer highlights some of the powerful shots revealing that the majority of the leading cast in the upcoming season – Elisabeth Moss playing the lead role as June Osborne, Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy and Aunt Dowd as Aunt Lydia. Mayday is growing in number and all the women of Gilead might slowly realize that they deserve better. With more women uniting with June, the viewers are left with a expectations of an upcoming war in Gilead. It intrigues a conflict in the viewer’s mind – will Mayday ever gain its victory or will the existing power and the betrayers of freedom triumph? The season seems to have connection to the children who escaped and to the arrest of Serena but the direction of the plot is still unpredictable.
