In the course of a briefing following the financial results report of Sony by late April, Bloomberg reported in May that Sony Group Chief Financial Officer, Hiroki Totoki, had revealed that PlayStation 5 is expected to remain short by 2022. Totoki added, “I don’t see demand easing this year, even if we obtain a lot more devices and manufacture far more PlayStation 5 units next year, our supply will not match up to demand,” Bloomberg said.
During the conference, Sony noted that since launching the PS5, partly owing to lack of components, such as semiconductors, has been harder to maintain.
By 31 March, Sony sold 7.8 million PS5 devices. For this fiscal year, the firm anticipates selling at least 14.8 million devices.
The PS5 was introduced on 12 November 2020 and was launched in the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, NZ, and South Korea. On 19 November 2020, the console started up in most parts of the planet. PS5 retails for $499.99, while PS5 Digital Edition retails for $399.99 (without including optical discs).
