Vodafone Idea and Reliance jio:
Vodafone Idea and Reliance jio will soon be entering into a battle in the legal world to determine the forthcoming of of future data plans. Reliance jio,the subsidiary digital arm of Reliance Industries, on Tuesday approach the telecom disputes settlement and appellate tribunal in order to vocalise its position before any order was passed on Vodafone Idea’s petition. The petition by vodafone-idea was against the regulatory restrictions on the premium plants which were expected to trigger a new competition in the already financially stressed telecom industry.
The telecom regulatory Authority of India block the premium plans of Vodafone Idea in Bharti Airtel on the complaint of Reliance jio on June 11. It has further filed an application with the telecom tribunal which is yet to be admitted. The telecom dispute settlement and appellate tribunal is expected to hear Vodafone’s complaint on Thursday as telecom regulatory Authority of India short time to file reply.
Premium plans released by the telecom companies are an essential contributor to their average revenue per user, especially in the case of Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. both these companies are already struggling to maintain their peace with the issue of pending dues linked to adjusted gross revenue that is still going on in the supreme court. In the AGR case, telecom companies are are struggling against the order to pay a total of rupees 1.47 trillion. The hearing is scheduled on July 20.
The battle is is primarily over Vodafone Red X plans that was launched last November in which customers were given unlimited local and STD calls, up to 50% higher data speed with unlimited data, Netflix subscription and premier customer service. This scheme was amended in May 2020. By June 2020 RedX premier plan had gathered 127000 subscribers. Mukesh Ambani on Reliance jio has termed this particular data plan as discriminatory while Vodafone has declared the complaint as vague and irrational.
