The telecom disputes settlement and the appellate tribunal has given a relief to the stressed telecom company Vodafone Idea by allowing to go ahead and fetch new customers for its premium tariff plans. The tribunal said that the notice issued by the telecom regulatory authority of India regarding the suspension of premium plans by the company was baseless.
The telecom regulatory authority of India had asked Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel to withdraw their new plans on the basis that it was discriminatory to other customers followed by a complaint filed by Reliance Jio platforms.
The tribunals judgment is specifically for Vodafone Idea and it is still not what would be the future math of Bharti Airtel premium plans.
With its latest decision the tribunal has also asked the company to respond to a questionnaire by the regulator by the end of July 22 in concern with the lack of transparency raised by the regulator. The telecom regulatory authority of India had given an order to freeze Vodafone’s idea’s RedX plan for high-end postpaid customers which was launched in November 2019 and offered its customers unlimited local and STD calls, unlimited data with 50% higher speed, Netflix subscription as well as premier customer service. As per the data collected, the plan had 127000 customers at the end of June. The tribunal has denied the justification of suspension just to facilitate a detailed examination by the regulatory authority to be useful. Even during the submissions, The detailed examinations shown by the regulator do not require to withhold the Vodafone RedX plan.
After this decision, the regulator is now allowed to proceed with the enquiry and take a final decision in accordance with the law as soon as possible. It will also be required to ensure that the decision thus passed would be satisfactory and justified.
