Scientists have found a new organ of nearly 1.5 inches in length in the upper part of the throat. The journal Radiotherapy and Oncology said in a report the presence of mucous glands with multiple draining ducts is confirmed by histology and 3D construction.
The journal Radiotherapy and Oncology said in a report, “Histology and 3D reconstruction confirmed the presence of PSMA-expressing, predominantly mucous glands with multiple draining ducts, predominantly near the torus tubarius.”
Researchers have found a new organ in the upper part of the throat accidentally. The study proposes the name of the glands as tubarial glands. Further, the study mentions that the human body contains a pair of clinically relevant salivary glands. The study says, “The human body contains a pair of previously overlooked and clinically relevant macroscopic salivary gland locations.”
A new organ 1.5 inches in length found in the upper part of the throat by the doctors:
While the researchers were using a combination of CT scans and PET scans( Positron emission tomography), they found a new organ accidentally. Researchers were using PSMA PET-CT scans to study prostate cancer when a new organ was discovered. A radioactive tracer was injected into the patient by the doctors. Then the images of 100 patients were studied and it was found that all of them had the glands.
According to doctors, the newly discovered organ will help in the treatment of cancer. This is because damage to these glands will impact the quality of life due to radiation impact.
The report said that if these glands were spared in the patients receiving RT then this will provide an opportunity to improve their quality of life.
