The cybercrime unit along with the CM flying squad busted another fake call centre in Gurgaon on Friday. Police have detained more than 30 people and have arrested 6 people including the call centre owner and manager.
Another Fake call centre busted in Udyog Vihar Phase1
The call centre located in Udyog Vihar Phase 1, Gurgaon has 30 employees. All of them including the mastermind has been nabbed by the police. It is reported that the accused duped foreigners through pop-ups by offering them technical support and antivirus. Police added that two main server laptops have been seized.
DSP, CM squad Inderjeet Singh said that the call centre employees used to send a link of the virus through a pop up on an illegal website. When anyone assessed these sites, the virus bugged the system after which the foreign customer called the centre and they provided them with the solution.
He further added, “They asked foreign nationals to purchase iTunes gift cards and then took their number and charged 300 to 700 dollars from one customer.” Gurugram Police Commissioner KK Rao said, “Their employees sent the link through Go to Assist, Any Desk, Team Viewer, Log Main and Ammy and then sent it to their technical team who charged in dollars in the name of providing technical help.”
The fake call centre was being run from plot No 108, Udyog Vihar Phase 1. A joint raid was conducted by the CM squad and cybercrime unit. When they reached there, they found over 30 employees busy on their computers and laptops. Most of them were busy making calls in English using their headphones. Police said that they did not possess any valid Other Service Providers(OSP) licence.
The arrested accused have been identified as:
call centre owner- Abhinandan Kumar( Dwarka, Delhi)
manager- Sunit Gautam( Hauz Khas, Delhi)
Huidrom Samson Meitei( Manipur)
