China Sending the US a message: China has recently bombarded a medium range of missiles into the South China Sea over a considerable distance. It is Beijing’s brand new move to show its supreme power and strategic dominance over the disputed water bodies.

The missile which launched on Wednesday underlined a series of military exercises conducted by China this month, during the time of rising tension between the US over the claim of its territory in the south China sea and the pressure on the self-governing island, Taiwan, which Beijing claims to be it’s own.

a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, Senior Col. Wu Qian on Thursday, without exactly mentioning the missiles he confirmed that China has conducted long-planned drills over an area stretching from Qingdao in northeastern China to disputed islands in the South China Sea known as the Spratlys.

He further said that the above exercises were not directed at any country in a regularly scheduled briefing in Beijing.

China has indicated its plans about the missiles testing by declaring travel restrictions zones in the part of South China sea this week.

According to an American defense official, American forces in the region have identified four missiles from the mainland to that area.

The Pentagon is now assessing what type of missiles were involved. Among the medium-range missiles in growing arm depots of China are the DF-26 and the DF-21 which have the specialty to attack the moving targets at sea.

M. Taylor Fravel, an expert on the Chinese military who is also the director of Security Studies Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said that the growing frequency of military exercises and New type of capabilities displayed show the progress of China has achieved in the military modernization over the past two decades.

The Pentagon issued a statement that criticizes China for conducting military exercises in the disputed region. The statement highlights that China has violated its long-ago pledge of ” not to Militarize the South China Sea”

Tension over South China sea nad Taiwan has risen quickly in recent weeks as a result of the broader deterioration of the relationship between the US and China. The American military has recently started operations in the area with the deployment of the two aircraft in the waters claimed by China.
