On Tuesday, AAP ( Aam Aadmi Party) led government informed Delhi HC( High court that no more posters should be posted outside the lines of COVID-19 patients. Further, those pasted have been ordered to be removed.
Delhi government tells HC not to paste posters outside houses of covid patients:
The government assured that soon a circular will be released on its website against posters that are posted outside the houses of covid patients. Also, those which have already been passed will be removed.
The posters that were posted outside the houses of covid patients were an infringement of the right to privacy. It was an infringement of personal liberty and right to life as enshrined under Article 21 of the Constitution.
Justice Hima Kohli and Subramonium Prasad who are members of the High Court division bench had directed the Delhi government to issue the circular soon. Authorities have been ordered not to circulate the name of covid patients especially with RWA( Resident Welfare Association).
Here is what the bench stated: “It is, however, directed that the respondent No.1/GNCTD shall issue a circular to all the Home Isolation Nodal Officers directing them not to share the personal details of the COVID-19 patients with their neighbours or the Managing Committees of the RWAs of various localities.”
Kush Kalra, the petitioner is a lawyer and he drew the attention of HC to the fact that no order has been issued by the government regarding the circulation of names in WhatsApp groups of RWAs. Kush objected to the free circulation of names of covid 19 patients on various social media groups. He said that “is leading to stigmatisation and drawing of unnecessary attention”.
He added that covid patients ought to be given privacy to recover from their illness in peace, away from prying eyes.
