The congested area of Nabi Karim in Central Delhi is going to have a large parking space along with an interchange metro station. This will happen as the station will be built underground and above its surface, a multilevel car parking facility will be provided for over 3000 cars.
The interchange metro facility, as well as parking facility, will be ready in the next couple of years under Delhi Metro’s Phase 1V project. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and North Delhi Municipal Corporation have joined hands to Develop the Fully automated parking facility.
Anuj Dayal, executive director of corporate communications, DMRC said that the parking facility will be available as a part of the integrated station complex at Nabi Karim.
According to him, an interchange facility for Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor and the proposed Inderlok–Indraprastha corridor of Phase IV will be developed underground while the six-story parking facility with three-story commercial complex will be built above on station structure.
On Friday, Mangu Singh, Managing Director of DMRC and Gyanesh Bharti, north corporation commissioner signed a memorandum. Anil Baijal, Lieutenant governor also took part through videoconferencing and Jai Prakash, corporation mayor also attended the event.
Dayal also added that DMRC will construct the integrated substructure of the station while Corporation will construct the structure of commercial facilities of the complex through a concession agreement. And both will operate and maintain the Parking facility and commercial block as well.
Structure of Nabi Karim Metro Station
DMRC officials informed that The Nabi Karim Metro Station will have four underground levels as well on the surface it will have a nine-floor building. From which, three floors will be used for Commercial purposes and six will be used for the parking facilities. The integrated complex will be built on over 25,000 square meters of land which is located at Shahi Idgah Road in Sadar Bazar.
Sources tell that DMRC has already identified to build an interchange station but the corporation which owns the land had a different purpose for the land. They wanted to build there a multistorey parking cum commercial complex. Then after a series of meetings, they both come to a decision of an innovative idea of combining these two projects as an integrated complex.
DMRC has already constructed a multilevel parking facility at New Delhi metro station of Airport Express line
