DRDO fires Nirbhay cruise missile into sea, hits abort after 8 minutes

On Monday, DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization) launched the Nirbhay missile with range of 800-km from Odisha’s test facility into the Bay of Bengal. But the decision came after few minutes to abort the trial. The Nirbhay missiles will be formally inducted in Indian Military in a few months after some round of trials.

The decision of abort was taken after 8 minutes of when the missile developed a snag after being fired at 10:30 am from Odisha’s testing facility, as informed by an official. It is expected that DRDO will have another trial in few months after which the missile will be inducted in Indian Military to be at the borders and be ready in its full form.

10th missile flight tested in 35 days by DRDO to be prepared for any situation at LAC

DRDO tested its 10th  missile in the period of less than 35 days which makes an average of testing a missile every four days. the missiles are being tested in shortest time period in the response to the mobilization of Chinese troops at LAC (Line of Actual Control) in Ladakh sector. India and China are in stiff position since April this year, when suddenly Chinese PLA (People’s Liberation Army) started to deploy its soldiers and advanced weapons at LAC.

Nirbhay is a subsonic missile with a flying speed of 0.7 Mach including sea-skimming and terrain-hugging capability which helps a missile to stay under the radar of enemy to avoid detection. The launch of Nirbhay missile is powered by a solid rocket booster as developed by Advanced Systems Laboratory of DRDO.

The tests conducted on Monday are part of an efforts from the side of India to be completely able to protect its territory in Eastern Ladakh if any foreign attacks takes place in the sector.
