After the recent 2+2 ministerial meeting as conducted in New Delhi in the presence of US Secretary of State and Defence, in another discussions, India and Us held wide ranging discussions on the issues as experienced by UN Security Council Agenda and has also agreed to work together and closely on the basis of both the countries common goals of democracy, pluralism and rule based international order, as reported by the officials.

From earlier this year, India has been trying to push forward the reforms of the United Nations which also include Security council by providing the reasons that its composition doesn’t reflect current realities and liabilities and the council is not representative enough. India, along with Mexico and Ireland was elected as a non-permanent member for a two year term starting form January 2021, earlier this year.
US and India reflect the efforts to coordinate a host of global issues before the powerful organ of UN
The discussions between India and US reflect the efforts on the part of the two countries to coordinate a host of global issues that could come up before the powerful council of the United National next year. On the statement issued on Thursday, the Indian embassy said that both the sides held wide ranging discussions on issues on the UN Security Council agenda and recent developments. The Embassy also added that India and US has agreed to work closely given the shared value of democracy, pluralism and rule based international order as part of the upcoming non-permanent term for two years of India as a member of UNSC (United Nations Security Council) during 2021-22.
The UNSC has 15 members including 5 permanent members- the US , the UK, France, Russia and China. And China is the only permanent member of the UNSC which is against to India’s inclusion into the powerful organ of UN.
