IPL 2020: There is less than a month for the IPL to get on the fields and still, there aren’t any details about the schedule of the tournament which will have a total of 60 games. The reported delay is due to the travel restrictions between Emirates as a result of COVID 19.
According to a report of Cricinfo states, the idea is to host 21 of the 56 group stage games each in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, 14 in Sharjah, and the playoffs in the first two Emirates.
Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians are already in Abu Dhabi which means that they have to cross the borders multiple times. This increases the headache related to the restrictions in travel between Emirates.
Traveling to Abu Dhabi has become more time consuming as mandatory checks have to be done at the borders after the increase in the number of cases in the state.
The report further stated that the Council members of IPL are in touch with the Emirates Cricket Board Which is lead by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the UAE’s minister of culture, youth, and social development. They are trying to resolve the matter at the earliest possible.
CEO of Abu Dhabi Cricket, Matt Boucher believes that the matter is not as complex as it seems and can be resolved soon. He said that there is a DPI test or PCR test at the border and it is for the fact to protect the population of Abu Dhabi. Hundreds of people are using the border every day, thus, it is not at all an issue. It just has to be taken into consideration with the schedule and testing.
” If Sunrisers Hyderabad is staying in Dubai and playing in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, the team rotation for the test has to be taken 48 hours before they travel to Abu Dhabi. Then, they can travel back to Dubai without any problem.”
There needs to be alignment between the player’s matches and the testing. However, it is not an easy task but it can be figured out. It needs to be calculated and the safety of the players and others is the most important thing.
Similar logistics will be applied for the teams that are staying in Abu Dhabi. Like Mumbai Indians playing a match in Dubai. So before the match, they have to undergo a PCR match 48 hours before.
Authorities are figuring out the logistics before finalizing the schedule
