Kamala Harris’ niece shares a picture depicting aunt as Durga; Hindu group seek an apology. The image depicted Kamala Harris as goddess Durga who was seen killing Donald Trump. The US President was depicted as buffalo demon’ Mahishasura’.

Hindu groups seek an apology:

Suhag A Shukla of the Hindu American Foundation said on Monday in a tweet, “You’re tweeting a caricature of the feminine divine, Maa Durga, with faces superimposed, deeply aggrieved many Hindus globally.”

Though the tweet has now been deleted by Meena Harris, Hindu groups in the US seek apology from the niece of Senator Kamala Harris for tweeting an offensive image. The image depicting Democratic Vice presidential nominee as goddess Durga was later deleted by Meena Harris. Meena Harris, 35 is a lawyer and founder of Phenomenal Woman Action Campaign. The Phenomenal Woman Action Campaign is an organisation that works to bring awareness to intersectional social causes.

Hindu American Community issued a guideline for commercial use of images relating to the religion.  Rishi Bhutada, member of Hindu Political Action Committee revealed that the offensive picture was not created by Meena herself. Before her tweet, it was circulating on WhatsApp.

Bhutada added that he believes that an apology should come from her even though she did delete the tweet. He further said that our religious iconography should not be used in the service of politics in America. He said the same when the Fort Bend County GOP did it in an ad in 2018.

The tweet is now deleted. However, the screenshot is still circulating on social media where pipelines are retweeting. Shefali Vaidya is a noted author and she mentioned in a tweet that the image is highly offensive and insulting to Hindus. Also, the author asked for an apology for the same.
