On Sunday morning in South Delhi, ASI of Delhi police was suspended after the death of an auto rickshaw driver in police custody. The 45-year-old auto-rickshaw driver is identified as Dharambir, resident of Najafgarh. The family member of Dharambur said that he died because police assaulted him brutally in custody.

The police said that after a car theft case was reported at Lodhi Colony police station on Thursday, the investigation was marked to ASI Vijay. When CCTV footage was checked, it was found that the accused had come on an auto-rickshaw. A senior officer said that Dharambir had rented out the auto.
Atul Kunar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police( South) said, “Dharmabir was asked to join the investigation. Based on his disclosure, a man named Satish, who was driving the auto at the time of the incident and another person named Ghewar Ram Choudhary, both residents of Fatehpur Beri, were arrested.”
While Dharambir was being probed, he was interrogated by ASI Vijay in a room at Lodhi Colony police station. The officer said that Vijay went to the bathroom and when he returned, he did not find Dharambir there. Further, Dharambir was lying on the floor in the central courtyard following which he was rushed to AIIMS hospital. During the treatment, he died and then the family was informed.
