Navjot Singh Sidhu breaks silence on New Farm Bills

Congress’s most known leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was lying low from the last few months, breaks his silence on Twitter. Today, he posted two tweets in support of farmers who are protesting against the new farm bills, which were passed in Lok Sabha on Thursday.


“Attack on our existence will not be tolerated”, The Congress leader said supporting the farmer’s protest against the Bills.


The farm bills that were proposed by the Central Government, have been named as Anti farmers and have been seeing intense protest from various farmers’ organizations, mostly in Punjab and Haryana. On Thursday, BJP oldest ally, Shiromani Akali Dal, pulled out its only minister in The union cabinet and said it will review over the issues.

Congress party leader, Navjot Singh Sidhu tweeted, “Government has been making these mistakes all their ages. They had dust on their faces, but they kept cleaning the mirror.”

Then, the Congress leader tweeted in Gurmukhi which says, “Farming is the soul of Punjab, the wounds of the body can heal, but an attack on our spirit, our existence will not be tolerated. The war trumpet says Inqilab Zindabad. Punjab, Punjabiyat, and each Punjabi are with the farmers.”

Farm Bills will benefit the farmers: Central Government

The three farm Bills which passed in Lok Sabha are the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill. Now, these bills will be tabled in Rajyasabha.

However, the central government is saying that the proposed laws will help the small and marginal farmers by creating an ecosystem where farmers and traders can enjoy the freedom of choice related to the sale and purchase of farm produce.

While presenting the bills for discussion in the parliamentary house, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar had said that they will lead to more investment in agriculture and will help in improving the incomes of the farmers.

However, the farmers in the agricultural dependent fear out of losing their incomes. Even the ruling party in Punjab, Congress has designated the bills as Anti Farmers and Said that it will kill the incomes and livelihood of the Farmers.
