On Monday, a 21-year-old student, identified as Nikita Tomar, was shot dead in Haryana’s Ballabhgarh. Victim’s family claims ‘love jihad’. The incident took place in broad daylight during a failed abduction attempt that was caught on CCTV.

What Happened?

The incident took place around 3.40 pm on Monday outside the Aggarwal College in Ballabhgarh, Faridabad, where Nikita Tomar, a final year student of B.Com had gone to take an exam.

The main attacker Touseef along with his friend Rehan was waiting for Nikita to come out in a white i20 car. She was shot dead and the entire incident got recorded in the nearby CCTV.

In the security video, it was clearly seen that Nikita and her friend were desperately trying to dodge the gun-waving Touseef. After Touseef shot Nikita dead, Rehan dragged Touseef to the car and they drove off, leaving Nikita bleeding on the road. Nikita died in the hospital.

What did the victim’s family say?

The victim’s family, while pointing out ‘love jihad’ as the main reason behind her gruesome murder, said that Tauseef had killed Nikita after she refused to accept his demands and rejected his proposal.

The victim’s brother has also said that Tauseef was forcing Nikita to convert her religion to Islam and now the victim’s family is protesting and demanding instant justice for Nikita.

The victim’s mother has urged the authorities to take strict actions against Touseef and Rehan. She further added that she will not cremate her daughter until they both are “encountered.”

What did the police say?

On Tuesday, the Haryana Police said that they have arrested Touseef and Rehan from Mewat with the help of the 10-member SIT constituted by the Haryana Police to arrest the culprits. Moreover, the Haryana Police has not ruled out the ”love-jihad” angle behind the girl’s murder.

The police also informed that Nikita’s family had complained about Touseef back in 2018. At that time Touseef had kidnapped Nikita and was forcing her to change to Islam.
