Punjab Government rounds Centre Government on multiple issues, From Farm ordinances to GST


Punjab Government: Amarinder Singh led Punjab Government is taking directly on BJP’s Central Government on multiple issues, even after facing many obstacles from Punjab’s opposition parties for taking down on the Central Government for various issues.


Talking about issues from financial aid during COVID times to knocking on Supreme Court’s doors on the JEE-NEET entrance exam, to a shortfall of GST compensation, the SYL row, agricultural ordinances, and Electricity Act, 2020, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is so Vocal about all the issues and opposing the Central Government on all these matters.


Meanwhile, most of the Non- BJP government hitting hard the center on the issues of Non- payment of GST compensation and conduct of JEE and Neet exams during the Coronavirus pandemic. The Punjab government has hit hard government on issues like SYL, agricultural ordinances and, scholarship for SC students.

However, State Finance Minister Manpreet Badal says all this doesn’t mean any confrontation. It is about raising issues and trying to find a way forward.

Since the COVID 19 days, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh is hitting hard the Centre for not helping the state with the funds to fight COVID 19 virus. Recently, at an online Idea Exchange event, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said That the Centre has given the state only Rs 101 crores whereas he himself had already spent Rs 500 crores to combat Coronavirus. He also rounds the government for not paying the GST compensation.


On Monday, Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal wrote to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to inform that the State has rejected both the options given By the Centre for GST compensation.

On the Punjab government stand on GST, Badal said “we are not doing any politics on the matter of GST, as Sitharaman says, we have many other platforms to do politics. We have Vidhan Sabha, Lok Sabha, and Rajya Sabha for politics. Discussion in the GST council was about compensation. We are not looking for a confrontation. If the Government of India does not have money, it can find solutions.”

The state government has also filed a review petition in the Supreme court on JEE and Neet exams as Amarinder Singh is outspoken on the matter and Said that the Coronavirus is peaking in the state and he would not like the children of his state get exposed to it.

While the State government is not agreeing on with Central Government on many issues, state opposition parties accused the leading party that they are dragging the BJP line.
