In the last 24 hours, Punjab reported a total of 2,628 new COVID 19 cases and 68 fatalities, a state government issued health bulletin informed. The increase in new cases is the highest number of cases in a single day until now.
On Sunday, all the 22 districts in Punjab reported new cases, which is a trend observed by the government this month.
Punjab Districts COVID 19 Tally
According to the health bulletin, SAS Nagar (Mohali) has reported the highest number of new cases up to 433 in the last 24 hours. So far, It is also the Highest cases reported by any district of the state. Patiala is on second with 327 cases, followed by Ludhiana with 274, Jalandhar with 252 cases, Gurdaspur with 260, Amritsar with 188 cases, and Bathinda with 104 cases.
These seven districts account for almost 70 percent of Sunday’s cases
Apart from it, Hoshiarpur reported 79 new cases, then Sangrur reported 74 cases, followed by Ferozepur with 67, Pathankot with 49, Kapurthala with 64, Faridkot with 71, Moga with 36, Muktsar with 66, Barnala with 29, Fazilka with 57, Fatehgarh Sahib with 47, Ropar with 45, Tarn Taran with 25, Mansa with 48, and SBS Nagar with 33 cases, all reported new cases
All the districts except Muktsar and Ferozepur reported deaths. Amritsar district, which was once more affected but now okay, reported as many as 11 fatalities followed by Patiala with 10 deaths.
Other than these, districts like Barnala (1), Bathinda (6), Faridkot (1), Fazilka (3), Gurdaspur (1), Hoshiarpur (3), Jalandhar (6), Kapurthala (4), Ludhiana (5), Mansa (2), Moga (2), SAS Nagar (3), SBS Nagar (1), Pathankot (3), Ropar (2), Sangrur (3) and Tarn Taran (1) also reported deaths.
Estimates for September Month
September is proving to be the worst month for Punjab especially in terms of deaths. The state fatalities rate is currently at 2.9 percent which is among the highest in the country.
Punjab COVID 19 cases stand at 79,679 currently. Since September 1, the state has reported 27,153 new cases. A speedy rise in the cases as 52,526 cases was recorded till August 31. For instance, in the first 13 days of August month, the cases were only 11,817 cases.
From September 7, Punjab has been reporting 2000 new cases a day and has recorded 14,096 new cases in less than a week since then.
The government is expecting Coronavirus infection to peak in the state in the month of September. According to the estimates, the infection can touch 1.10 lakh people with 3000 deaths this week. However, fatalities are belying itself as current fatalities in the state are 2,356.
Punjab government blamed the rise in the cases is due to misinformation campaigns and patients’ resistance to getting themselves test and treated on time.
