Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh after 2+2 Ministerial meeting between India and US, slipped over making any comments on China has led to a diplomatic commotion, and also people are furious over his judgement of not speaking up over the crucial matter.
Both Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minster S Jaishankar did not mention China in their remarks
The commotion is huge as both Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar did not mention China in their remarks made during and after the 2+2 meeting. At the 2+ 2meeting, Rajnath Singh spoke in Hindi conveying that the problems as faced by the country currently had made the partnership between India and US more important than ever. The Indian Government’s interpreter, reading from a script said that in the area of Defence India is challenged by reckless aggression on the northern borders. Rajnath Singh was clearly taking up the issue of critical standoff between the troops of Indian Army and China’s PLA (People’s Liberation Army) on LAC ( Line of Actual Control) in eastern Ladakh, however he did not take the name of China directly in his message.
English interpreter was not handed out the revised script
It was learnt that the Indian Government changed its statement, and the English interpreter was not handed out the revised script. After realising that the two statements did not match, the Indian side informed US and after three days US Department of State corrected out the record. After diplomatic misunderstandings, the US Embassy spokesperson said that that original US transcript of the 2+2 opening statement was prepared from an audio recording of Indian Government interpreter English Language delivery to US participants.
Apart from the misinterpretation, the 2+2 meeting was a success as various issues were discussed during the meeting, which will make the partnership of India and US more strong.
