Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson Harivansh to observe 24-hour fast

8 MPs were suspended for one week from monsoon session on account of indulging in violence against the Deputy Chairperson Harivansh. Now Deputy Chairperson in his letter to Vice President and Chairperson of the upper house, wrote that he will be observing a ’24 hour fast’ for ‘unruly behaviour’ against him in the session on Sunday.

8 MPs suspended indulged in violence against Deputy Chairperson

Deputy Chairperson Harivansh added that the members indulged in physical violence in the name of democracy. The members of opposition parties on Sunday protested against the two farm bills that were passed in the upper house. The members used violence against the deputy chairperson to mark their protest against the farm bills.

On Tuesday, Harivansh said that he was unable to sleep for two days due to the unprecedented violence and chaos in the upper house on Sunday. The opposition parties protested against he farm bills on the context that the bills will bring destruction on farmers and that the members of opposition parties will not sign on  the suicide note of the farmers.

BJP explained the bills as necessary for farmers’ economic growth

However BJP and the speaker explained that the bill swill bring economic growth to the farmers and will help them grow their produces. They added that the bills will not change the MSP (minimum support price) that is given to the farmers. Many farmers are opposing the bills on the context of MSP as opposition parties are trying to make them believe that he bills will change the MSP.

In the letter to the Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu , Harivansh wrote that he is inspired by Lord buddha and will observe ’24 hour fast’ hoping that it will bring ‘self purification’ in the members who mistreated him on Sunday. Also the opposition parties moved a non-confidence motion against the deputy chairperson however Vice President dismissed the motion.
