SC asks Republic Media TV to file affidavit on ‘vindictive, vendetta driven action’ of Maha govt

On Monday, Supreme Court asked the Republic Media networks to file an affidavit which would contain the matter of “series of vindictive and vendetta driven action” of the Maharashtra Government. In response Republic Network said that that the affidavit will reveal “the coercive and illegal methods of the Mumbai Police, the incessant harassment of our journalists and the seemingly tainted routes being used to try and fix and frame Republic.”

During the hearing of the Maharashtra government’s plea against the Bombay High Court’s order for suspension of two FIRs filed against Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami, the Apex Court sought the affidavit according to the press release by Republic Media Network.

Senior Advocate Harish Salve who was Appearing for Republic Media Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami,  informed the Supreme Court that there was a series of events which was deliberately conducted by Maharashtra Police since April 2020 to target his client, Arnab Goswami. Chief Justice of India SA Bobde said in response to the statement made: “The point is this that we would like you to put on affidavit and give a picture of course of things to come.”

Republic Media said that truth will prevail and nothing will remain secret from now on

The CJI observed “While nobody is above the law, some people are targeted with higher intensity. There is a culture these days, that some people need a higher degree of protection,”. Republic Network said in response to the affidavit said that that it will reveal the coercive and illegal methods of the Mumbai Police, the incessant harassment of Republic Media’s journalists and the seemingly tainted routes being used to try and fix and frame Republic Media Network.

Republic Media in its statement said that “We pledge that nothing will remain secret anymore” and will put every detail before the Honourable Supreme Court. It added that Republic Media believe that the truth can’t be concealed for long, and with the matter now slated to come before the Honourable Supreme Court they have no doubt that justice will prevail in its truest form.
