Schools Reopening In India: Both Punjab and Haryana Governments have given nod to open the schools in their respective states from October 15 onwards in a staggered manner. With these states, Uttar Pradesh has also agreed to reopen schools for classes 9 to 12 with effective from October 19.
However, Punjab has not shared any official dates for the reopening of the schools. Meanwhile, the Haryana government has asked the school to decide the school reopening dates as per their review of the situation.
The schedule of reopening of schools in Punjab
Earlier this month, the Punjab government announced that only students of classes 9 to 12 will be allowed to attend the schools which were going to reopen from today with the parental consent of each student. Schools would function for only 3 hours a day. Although, attendance would not be compulsory for the students. Those who wanted to take online classes can opt for it as well.
However, the final decision on dates by which the schools can reopen will be taken after the SOPs are issued by the Health Department.
A Punjab government spokesperson, Singla said, “Punjab government has decided to reopen schools. SOPs for the reopening of the schools have been decided and sent for the approval of the Health Department. We will announce the date of reopening once the SOPs get approved.”
He further added that In the first phase, schools outside the containment zone will be opened only for students of classes 9 to 12. Students have to get written permission from their parents to attend the classes. And If a student doesn’t want to attend physical classes, he can continue taking online classes from the comfort of their home. They will not be forced, they will have options.
The state government has also issued SOPs, According to Which not more than 20 students per section allowed in a class. The schools are mandatory to follow the Covid 19 precautionary measures such as wearing face masks, maintaining social distancing,
The schedule of reopening of schools in Haryana
Haryana government has allowed students of classes 6 to 9 to visit their schools for any consultation from their teachers from October 15 onwards.
Haryana’s state education minister, Kanwar Pal said, “If everything goes right, the students of these classes can consult their teachers from October 15 onwards.”
Two weeks before, the Directorate of School Education, Haryana had issued a letter to district education officers which allowed schools to reopen from September 21, 2020, for classes 9 to 12. While teachers and other staff started going to schools, no regular classes have been conducted for students.
