Shimla is all set for an impressive makeover by the end of the year 2020. It includes several Smart City projects worth Rs 900 crores in the line. Some of these projects include the widening of many congested junctions, construction of foot over bridges, pedestrian paths, parking lots, parks, lifts, escalators and so much more. Almost Rs 160 crores work has been already done on the projects while projects worth Rs 235 crores are being implemented.
Virtual meeting for the progress of projects
In a virtual meeting, which was organized by the City Advisory Forum of the Shimla Smart City Limited. Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj and MC Commissioner Pankaj Rai participated in the meeting. They informed about the progress of the projects that have been made in the last three months.
Pankaj Rai, who is also Managing Director of the Shimla Smart City Limited informed me that the work of the much-awaited project on parking near the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) has begun.
He said, “The parking will accommodate 700 vehicles and the cost of construction of the parking is Rs 32 crores.”
Many more parking lots are planned at various spots such as Vikas Nagar, Kasumpti. The widening of various junctions, roads, and availability of parking will make driving a much pleasant experience for the residents and tourists.
Many projects are in the final stages of development
Another high budget project which is in the final stage of its completion includes lifts/escalator from Lakkar Bazar to the Ridge and an escalator to the Jakhu temple. These lifts will provide comfort to elderly persons, children, patients, and tourists and spare them from climbing the stairs. The foot over bridges near the Lift and the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital will add comfort to the locals as well as tourists.
The Urban Development Minister was quite satisfied with the Smart City projects and how they picked up the speed in the last few months. He said that all the agencies need to work fast to complete all the projects within the given time frame.
