Prime Minister Modi said that soon, the Government will decide the minimum age of marriage for girls.
It has been reported that girls’ gross enrolment ratio in education has turned higher than that of boys. It has happened for the first time in the country. And it is the fruits of several efforts done by the government in the past six years.
Soon minimum age of marriage for girls will be raised: says PM Modi
On Friday, Modi said that soon a decision will be taken on revising the minimum age of marriage for girls. Once the government receives a report from the committee set up for this, then surely a decision will be made as said by the Prime Minister.
Modi said, “There is an important deliberation going on to decide what should be the ideal age of marriage for daughters.”
Modi revealed that he has been receiving letters from women across the country asking about the report of the committee. They asked him as to when the government will decide the same. The Prime Minister assured all of them by saying that after submission of the report, the government will soon make its decision.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister in his Independence Day speech mentioned that the government is deliberating on the minimum age of marriage for women. And a committee has been set up to look upon the same. Presently, the minimum age for marriage of women is 18 years and for men, it is 21 years. Besides this, the Prime minister highlighted the efforts taken by the government to fight against malnutrition. He said that an integrated approach has been taken to deal with malnutrition.
