On Monday, US President Donald Trump warned Iran that any attack by Iran would lead to ‘1000 times greater in magnitude’ retaliation by the United States. The remark was made by the President after the reports surfaced that Iran was planning to avenge the Killing of top General Qasem Soleimani.
Iran plot on the assassination of US Ambassador to South Africa
US Media reports claimed that Iran allegedly plotted to assassinate the US Ambassador to South Africa before the US Presidential elections in November.
On reacting to the reports US President tweeted “According to press reports, Iran may be planning an assassination, or other attacks, against the United States in retaliation for the killing of terrorist leader Soleimani.”
Trump warned Iran of drastic consequences of any type of attack if conducted by Iran and that the United States will attack Iran which would be 1000 times greater in magnitude.
Relations between Iran and America are critical
Relations between the United States and Iran have been tense since the Iranian Revolution. The ties between the countries got worsened after Trump unilaterally pulled out of a Landmark International Nuclear deal in May 2018.
This January, Qasem Soleimani was killed in Baghdad by the drone attack. US is trying to extend an arms embargo on Iran and also reimposing UN sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
Last week the Iranian navy announced that it drove away an American aircraft which was flying closer to the area where Iranian military exercises were being conducted near the Strait of Homuz.
The Iranian military claimed that three US aircraft were detected flying in Iranian airspace and were detected by Iran’s air force radars after they entered Iran’s air defense identification zone.
Elections in the US are on November 3. Any attack or any retaliation by either country could directly affect its result.
