Under-construction tunnel collapses in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu, 4 dead

Recently, the 4 construction workers had died when an under-construction tunnel collapses near Kullu. One of the workers had been injured while one worker was rescued from this mishap.


The Location of the Tunnel

The Tunnel was located near Pancha Nala in Garsa valley of Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district. The project was a part of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) project and the tunnel collapsed on Friday evening.


As soon as the news broke out, the Police department was notified of the same. The police immediately started to rescue operation to save the people. Upon searching the collapsed site, the rescue team found 4 bodies buried deep within the debris. One injured worker was found in the rubble and was quickly rushed to the Kullu hospital for emergency treatment.

We also have the statement of the Kullu SP herewith where he said, “We received information that the tunnel collapsed at Panchand six labourers were trapped inside. Rescue teams, police personnel and medical team with ambulances rushed to the spot”

One worker has been declared safe

The worker who was injured has been declared safe vide the statement given by the SP of Kullu district.

Two of the workers who had died were from the Sirmaur district. One was a resident of Nepal and other one was a local. The person who was injured suffered leg injuries as the falling rocks managed to crush his leg.

The accident took place around 5:40 PM when the workers started with drilling work in the tunnel. The Garsa valley has managed to gain a reputation for itself for being unstable with land and environment. Also, the area is a constant victim to flash floods and cloudbursts in the monsoon season.

NHPC is constructing many projects in the area of Kullu district as many of them have been commissioned by the government.
