Chennai Super Kings fans are flooding in with reactions after the news broke of Suresh Raina, who has decided to pull out from the Dream11 IPL 2020 after recently announcing his retirement from international cricket along with M.S Dhoni. In a statement released by CSK owner Kasi Viswanathan, it read, “Suresh Raina has returned to India for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the remainder of the tournament. Chennai Super Kings offers complete support to Raina and his family during this time.”
IPL 2020 – After arriving to the UAE a week ago, Suresh Raina made a dolorous announcement of discontinuing his cricketing career due to “personal issues” with a gutted statement that read, “When the bio-bubble is not safe how does one take a chance? I have a family with two little kids and elderly parents. For me returning to the family was more important than my career.”
The left-handed middle-order batsman has represented India in 226 One Day International matches scoring a total of 5615 runs at an average of 35.30. He was also an occasional off-spinner with 36 ODI wickets under his belt. Although, he’s had a decent ODI career, it’s his T20 stats that make Raina a special player. He has played 78 T20I matches for India scoring a total of 1605 runs with a strike rate of 134.9. In the IPL, Raina has played 193 matches scoring a total of 5368 runs with a strike rate of 137.1.
Apart from his aggressive batting style, Raina was also regarded as one of the best fielders in world cricket.
One cannot deny how difficult it could have been for Raina, who had set his hand to withdraw his name from the tournament much before he left for Chennai. He decided to take a ‘red-eye’ flight on 5th September to return back to his family in India.
However, fans are still hopeful to see him back in the yellow jersey after Raina told Cricbuzz in a recent interview, “I have been training even while quarantining here. You never know when you might see me in the CSK camp again”.
