IPL 2020: For the first time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history, the biggest cricket league in the world will see an American cricketer. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed Ali Khan, a 29-year-old right-arm fast bowler from the United States.
He will replace the English right-arm pacer, Harry Gurney, who pulled out from the Dream11 IPL 2020 due to a shoulder injury while playing for Nottinghamshire Cricket Club in County cricket.
Ali Khan was selected in the USA squad for the first time back in 2016 for the Audi Cup and ICC WCL Division Four in Los Angeles.
He was a squad member of the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR), which remained unbeaten throughout their Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020 title-winning season. Ali managed to pick up a total of 8 wickets from 8 matches with a decent economy rate of 7.43 in the tournament.
Recently, Dwayne Bravo (Chennai Super Kings) posted a video on one of his Instagram stories with Ali Khan and TKR and KKR coach Brendon McCullum with the caption, “Next stop Dubai.”
As per reports, Ali Khan was on the radar of Kolkata Knight Riders last season as well, but no deal could be worked out.
His performances was recognized during the 2018 Global T20 tournament in Canada, where he caught the eye of famous West Indian all-rounder, Bravo, who later brought Ali Khan to Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) in the CPL.
On his CPL debut in 2019, Ali Khan dismissed former Sri Lankan legendary batsman Kumar Sangakkara on his first delivery. That year, Khan picked up a total of 16 wickets in 12 matches for GAW, the second-most by a quick bowler in the CPL that season.
