The Indian Premier League will see the clash between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders tonight. The Rajasthan team has won two matches while Kolkata has won a match and lost one.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will have to show their best game at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium tonight against Rajasthan Royals (RR), who are running in the best form if they are to keep their campaign on track in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Royals were believed to be the underdogs from the beginning as they had a kick-start at the beginning of the tournament. In the last match, RR achieved a record target of 224 runs against Kings Eleven Punjab (KXIP). The Royals have won both their matches and have easily crossed 200 runs. The contribution of opener Sanju Samson and Rahul Tewatia has been significant in these successes, who has undoubtedly been the star players so far in this year’s edition of the IPL. Haryana’s all-rounder Tewatia had overturned the match by 53 runs in 31 balls in the last match against KXIP. With his help, the Royals impressively achieved the target of 224 runs while remaining three balls.
Tewatia had scored only 8 in 19 deliveries, but suddenly the aggressive batsman inside him woke up and changed the direction of the match by smashing five sixes in one over of West Indian pacer Sheldon Kotrail. But the royals’ first two wins were hugely boosted by Kerala’s wicketkeeper batsman Samson. He has scored two consecutive half-centuries and his strike rate in the first two games has been 214.86. He has once again staked his claim for the empty slot left in the Indian team for a wicket-keeper after MS Dhoni’s retirement.
Captain Steve Smith has played the role of a supporter. He has scored two half-centuries while opener Jos Butler is awaiting a dramatic innings for the team. In such a situation, if Kolkata Knight Riders has to match the Royals or get beyond that, their biggest star Andre Russell and England’s World Cup winning captain Ian Morgan will have to perform at their best. Morgan and Russell have got far fewer chances as they bat fifth and sixth in the order for KKR.
KKR’s team management can promote them up the batting order in this match, especially the Caribbean cricketer who scored 510 runs at a strike rate of 204.81 in the previous session. KKR suffered a defeat to MI in the first match but in the second match they took advantage of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) mistakes and made a good comeback.
With the unbeaten half-century of talented opener Shubman Gill and Morgan’s stormy innings, KKR had achieved a target of 145 runs with two overs remaining. But given the Royals ‘ batting, no goal can be said to be safe. In addition, both super overs of the tournament have been played in Dubai. This place is new to both the teams as they will play their first match here in Dream11 IPL 2020. For the record, the team batting first has won all the five matches so far.
