Rajasthan Royals wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson, who is running in a spectacular rhythm in the current indian Premier League (IPL) season, said on Tuesday that no one can play like former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He said that no one should try to play like Dhoni.
Samson’s ability to play big shots with ease the team recorded a thrilling victory against Chennai Super Kings and Kings eleven Punjab in close bouts. Rajasthan Royals were able to chase the record target against the Punjab team. After his dramatic innings, Kerala Congress MP Shashi Tharoor termed him as the next Dhoni.
The 25-year-old Samson, however, dismissed the comparison and said, “I can say with confidence that no one can play like Dhoni, nor should anyone try to play like him. Playing like Dhoni is not easy at all, so it should be left apart. I never think of playing like MS Dhoni. He is a veteran of Indian cricket and the game.”
Further to that he said, “I just look at my game of what I can do, how I can do the best in it and how I can win the match.”
Former cricketer and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir also agreed to the Kerala batsman. Gambhir said that the 25-year-old player should concentrate on becoming Sanju Samson of Indian cricket instead of becoming the next Dhoni.
Samson strengthened his claim for a place in the Indian team by playing a hospitality innings of 74 and 85 runs. Asked if he felt he had made enough effort to attract the attention of the national selectors, Samson said, “Maybe yes, maybe not. I think I know I’m in a good rhythm, my only dream is to win matches for my team. Now, my focus is on IPL.”
