California fires: Helicopter pilot killed while battling blaze

California fires: A pilot battling against the fire in central California died after his water-dropping helicopter crashed near the city of Coalinga on Wednesday morning. He was the only person on board.

What Happened?

Hundreds of fires are burning across the US state from the last week including some major fires in the area. Gavin Newsom the governor of the area blamed lightning strikes for this huge burn. He said that the state has recorded around 11,000 lightning strikes in 72 hours and knows of 367 fires.

The pilot (whose name is unknown) was battling against the fire with Guardian Helicopters, crashed near the city of Coalinga.

Newsom has declared a state of emergency in the state as the government has to fight against hundreds of blazes.

Thousands of people have to leave their homes in areas near San Francisco due to the wildfires that spread in the region.

The city of Vacaville

The city of Vacaville which lies between San Francisco and Sacramento and is home to around 100,000 people is the riskiest.

The associated authorities went door to door to clear homes. For the homes that are at some distance, the officials asked the residents to stay inside and shut their windows.

As per the information given by the fire officials, 50 structures have completely burned down in the city of Vacaville while 50 structures are damaged by the fire.

The authorities further informed that the fire has injured four people and around 2,000 buildings are in threat in Vacaville.

What caused this fire?

This huge breakout is thought to have been caused by a heatwave the state has recorded around 11,000 lightning strikes in 72 hours and knows of 367 fires.

Combined with some other factors like one of the highest ever temperatures on Earth was recorded in California’s Death Valley which further sparked the blaze. Moreover, around 45 million people are at risk of this outbreak.
