Face masks provide better protection than a COVID-19 COVID-19 would: Robert Redfield,

The director of the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States, Robert Redfield, said that the face masks provided much better protection against the coronavirus infection than a vaccine would.

Supporting his claim, Redfield called these face masks as the “most powerful public health tool” against the coronavirus battle.

Robert Redfield made this statement while he was responding to questions from US lawmakers at a Senate sub-committee hearing.

What did he say?

Robert Redfield called face masks a more powerful tool than the vaccine against the coronavirus. To prove this he claimed that he has clear scientific evidence of these face masks work, and they are the best defense against the infection or the virus.

Adding on that he said, he will go far with these masks even after he takes a vaccine against the coronavirus as these masks guarantee to protect more than the vaccine.

He further said that the coronavirus vaccine will be available in the market by the end of this year or by the starting of next year but no one knows as of now how effective these vaccines are likely to be.

However, keeping the hopes alive in the people, US President Donald Trump said that the country will be getting the vaccine before 3rd November.

Many experts and vaccine developers have also said that during the early stage developed vaccines might not be the most effective ones. So, face masks will stay with us for a long. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has also said that it would give a green signal a vaccine if was found to be safe and was at least 50 percent of efficacy.

Robert Redfield requested people to continue or start using face masks. He also said that people should wear face masks even after getting vaccinated.

Later on, he added that this ongoing pandemic could be brought under control if universally people start using these face masks.
